Edema of the brain tissue

Cerebral Edema

Brain swelling can be very serious. Doctors call this cerebral edema. Your brain can swell in just one area or throughout the brain. When your brain swells, extra fluid gathers inside your skull. The extra fluid puts pressure on your brain and limits how well the blood flows in your brain. Your brain needs good blood flow to have the right amount of oxygen to work well. If part of your brain does not get enough oxygen, the cells start to die.
